Back in junior high school, I had a teacher who taught us this song to help us do better in math. Great thing about it was that it was influenced by the song, ‘I Can’ by hip hop legend, Nas. Although, I don’t quite remember the math version to the song anymore, I will say I was inspired to create a piece representing a younger me, who believed that she can and that she will be a great artist one day. I love this image because it illustrates my love for art and the importance for young kids to stick to what the love doing, no matter how fast they grow up.
Nas version: I Can
“I know I can
Be what I wanna be
If I work hard at it
I’ll be where I wanna be
I know I can (I know I can!)
Be what I wanna be (be what I wanna be!)
If I work hard at it (If I work hard it!)
I’ll be where I wanna be (I’ll be where I wanna be!)”
"Never lose the kid in you."
-Be You. Be True. Be ART
